About This Book
A Romance Novel For The Ages>/b> Written in 1847 this English literature classic is set somewhere in the north of England during the reign of King George III.
It chronicles the different stages of a woman's life from child through adulthood, and approaches the topics of class, sexuality, religion and feminism. The main character, Jane Eyre, is an impoverished orphan who possesses neither exceptional beauty nor captivating charm. She must rely only on her powers of perception and diligence as she conducts herself with dignity, energized by her strong passion.
The focus is on the gradual unfolding of Jane's moral and spiritual sensibility as we follow her in her journey from the custody of cruel relatives, to an oppressive boarding school, to a troubled career as a governess. Jane's assignment at Thornfield Hall introduces us to the proud and cynical master of the house, Edward Rochester, who harbors a scandalous secret and draws us deeper into a riveting exploration of the mysteries and conditions of the human heart. Jane’s insistence upon emotional equality with him suggests a feminist viewpoint, while her solitary status causes us to consider the problems of growing up as a social outsider. This compelling novel revolutionized the art of fiction through its intimate first-person narrative, where actions and events are enhanced and colored by a psychological intensity. Jane Eyre, along with Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, is one of the most famous romance novels of all time.
Author Charlotte Brontë has been called the 'first historian of the private consciousness' and the literary ancestor of writers like James Joyce and Marcel Proust.

About This Book
In "Jane Eyre," Charlotte Brontë presents a richly textured narrative that intertwines themes of love, morality, and social critique within the framework of a Gothic romance. The novel follows the life of its eponymous heroine, Jane, as she navigates the oppressive structures of Victorian society, seeking autonomy and belonging. Brontë's use of first-person narration immerses readers in Jane's inner turmoil, while her lyrical prose captures the stark contrasts between passion and restraint, social class and personal agency. As a pioneering work in feminist literature, "Jane Eyre" challenges normative gender roles and advocates for emotional and intellectual independence. Charlotte Brontë, one of the renowned Brontë sisters, drew upon her own experiences of isolation and societal restrictions in crafting "Jane Eyre." Born in 1816, Brontë faced the limitations imposed on women of her time, which informed her creations. The loss of family members and the impact of her upbringing in a clergyman's household added depth to her exploration of the themes of love, identity, and resilience, making Jane's journey profoundly relatable and universal. "Jane Eyre" is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with contemporary readers. Its profound insights into human nature, combined with Brontë's compelling storytelling, make it a must-read for anyone interested in literature that scrutinizes personal agency amidst societal constraints. This novel is not merely a tale of romance; it is an exploration of the struggle for self-determination and integrity, making it essential for both literary scholars and casual readers alike.

About This Book
JANE EYRE (originally published as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography) is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë. It was published on 16 October 1847, by Smith, Elder & Co. of London, England, under the pen name “Currer Bell.” The first American edition was published the following year by Harper & Brothers of New York. Primarily of the Bildungsroman genre, Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of its eponymous heroine, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the Byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall. In its internalisation of the action—the focus is on the gradual unfolding of Jane's moral and spiritual sensibility, and all the events are coloured by a heightened intensity that was previously the domain of poetry—Jane Eyre revolutionised the art of fiction. Charlotte Brontë has been called the ‘first historian of the private consciousness’ and the literary ancestor of writers like Joyce and Proust. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of classism, sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

About This Book
"There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner (Mrs. Reed, when there was no company, dined early) the cold winter wind had brought with it clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that further outdoor exercise was now out of the question.
I was glad of it: I never liked long walks, especially on chilly afternoons: dreadful to me was the coming home in the raw twilight, with nipped fingers and toes, and a heart saddened by the chidings of Bessie, the nurse, and humbled by the consciousness of my physical inferiority to Eliza, John, and Georgiana Reed.
The said Eliza, John, and Georgiana were now clustered round their mama in the drawing-room: she lay reclined on a sofa by the fireside, and with her darlings about her (for the time neither quarrelling nor crying) looked perfectly happy. Me, she had dispensed from joining the group; saying, “She regretted to be under the necessity of keeping me at a distance; but that until she heard from Bessie, and could discover by her own observation, that I was endeavouring in good earnest to acquire a more sociable and childlike disposition, a more attractive and sprightly manner—something lighter, franker, more natural, as it were—she really must exclude me from privileges intended only for contented, happy, little children.”
“What does Bessie say I have done?” I asked.
“Jane, I don’t like cavillers or questioners; besides, there is something truly forbidding in a child taking up her elders in that manner. Be seated somewhere; and until you can speak pleasantly, remain silent.”

Its representation of the underside of domestic life and the hypocrisy behind religious enthusiasm drew both praise and bitter criticism, while Charlotte Brontë's striking expose of poor living conditions for children in charity schools as well as her poignant portrayal of the limitations faced by women who worked as governesses sparked great controversy and social debate. Jane Eyre, Brontë's best-known novel, remains an extraordinary coming-of-age narrative, and one of the great classics of literature.

About This Book

Orphaned, unloved, and mistreated, Jane Eyre survives the brutal conditions of Lowood School to become a governess at the mysterious Thornfield Hall. There, she encounters the brooding, cynical Edward Rochester. As an unlikely romance ignites between the spirited governess and her employer, the shadows of Thornfield begin to whisper. A terrifying secret hidden in the attic threatens to destroy Jane's chance at happiness and forces her to choose between her heart and her integrity.
A Revolution of the Self: Unlike the passive heroines of her time, Charlotte Brontë's Jane is a woman of intense inner life and moral courage. The novel follows her journey from the "Red Room" of her cruel childhood to the desolate moors and back again. It is a profound exploration of social class, religious hypocrisy, and the struggle for female autonomy in a world designed to suppress it.

From the supernatural omens of the "Great Horse-Chestnut tree" struck by lightning to the chilling laughter heard behind locked doors, the novel keeps readers on the edge of their seats. It remains the definitive "Dark Romance," proving that true love requires equality, and true freedom requires the courage to walk away.
An epic of the soul that has captivated millions for generations. Purchase "Jane Eyre" today and meet literature's most unbreakable heroine.

About This Book
If Wuthering Heights is the storm, Jane Eyre is the fire.
Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece is not a romance about being chosen. It is a life-story about choosing yourself. Orphaned, underestimated, and continually measured by a society that rewards obedience, Jane Eyre grows into a woman who refuses to purchase comfort at the price of conscience.
This edition is built for readers who want the full power of the novel with modern clarity and momentum. The text is presented unabridged and formatted for effortless reading, with clean navigation that makes returning to key chapters simple.
Fire is the novel’s central physical symbol because it does not merely represent. It acts. Fire warms, invites, and humanizes. Fire also destroys, exposes, and forces decisions. A candle is intimacy and watchfulness at once. A hearth is comfort and containment. When fire appears, it is rarely neutral. It is a moral force. It breaks the rules of concealment.
Inside this Allen & Glades Reader’s Edition:
– A historian-guided introduction that illuminates the world Jane was written into: class, governess life, faith, and the social architecture of belonging
– A spoiler-safe first-time reader guide that sharpens what to watch for without ruining discoveries
– Study materials designed for book clubs, re readers, and serious collectors
– Premium interior formatting created for readability on Kindle and in print
Complete the Brontë shelf: pair this volume with Allen & Glades’ Wuthering Heights, its sister book in atmosphere and intensity.
One is weather.
One is flame.
Both are once-in-a-lifetime gifts.

About This Book
This is the original, unedited edition of Jane Eyre with a detailed biography of Charlotte Brontë attached at the end of the ebook.
Jane Eyre (originally published as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography) is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë, published on 16 October 1847, by Smith, Elder & Co. of London. Jane Eyre is a Bildungsroman which follows the experiences of its eponymous heroine, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the brooding master of Thornfield Hall. The book contains elements of social criticism with a strong sense of Christian morality at its core, and it is considered by many to be ahead of its time because of Jane's individualistic character and how the novel approaches the topics of class, sexuality, religion, and feminism. It, along with Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, is one of the most famous romance novels of all time.
Having helped first-time writers, Ilias Thiesseas Publishing has branched out into classics over the past years, as more and more people started believing in its vision. Now, Ilias Thiesseas Publising has been trusted and acknowledged to provide the complete original and unedited classics from world-famous authors. Its vision of becoming the leading classics publisher is tomorrow’s reality.

About This Book
"Jane Eyre", novel written by Charlotte Brontë in 1847 under her pseudonym, Currier Bell, is widely considered a classic.
The novel gave new truthfulness to the Victorian novel with its realistic portrayal of the inner life of a woman, noting her struggles with her natural desires and social condition.
The story is about a girl named – not surprisingly – Jane Eyre, and it's a bildungsroman, a coming-of-age story that follows Jane from childhood through motherhood. Many elements of Jane's life are similar to events in Charlotte Brontë's life. Because the work features a strong-willed and intelligent woman, it's often considered to be an early feminist text.

About This Book
"Jane Eyre" is the first and most famous novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855), published in 1847 under the pen name Currer Bell.
After a harsh and nearly loveless childhood at Lowood, an institution for poor and orphaned girls, the protagonist and title character becomes a governess at Thornfield Hall. There she falls in love with Edward Rochester, the master of the house. Rochester is attracted to her, too. But there are some obstacles to their love and secrets of the past. And then almost supernatural things start to happen at the house.
By using typical motifs from Gothic fiction and combining Gothicism with romanticism, "Jane Eyre" is a distinctive Victorian novel. There are many adaptations for film, television and theatre. The novel is still one of the most loved books and part of the canon of English literature.

About This Book
Jane Eyre is the story of a young, orphaned girl (shockingly, she's named Jane Eyre) who lives with her aunt and cousins, the Reeds, at Gateshead Hall. Like all nineteenth-century orphans, her situation pretty much sucks.
Mrs. Reed hates Jane and allows her son John to torment the girl. Even the servants are constantly reminding Jane that she's poor and worthless. At the tender age of ten, Jane rises up against this treatment and tells them all exactly what she thinks of them. (We wish we could've been there to hear it!) She's punished by being locked in "the red room," the bedroom where her uncle died, and she has a hysterical fit when she thinks his ghost is appearing. After this, nobody knows what to do with her, so they send her away to a religious boarding school for orphans—Lowood Institute.
At Lowood, which is run by the hypocritical ogre Mr. Brocklehurst, the students never have enough to eat or warm clothes. However, Jane finds a pious friend, Helen Burns, and a sympathetic teacher, Miss Temple. About This Book
The novel Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character. The novel is set somewhere in the north of England, during the reign of George III (1760–1820), and goes through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at Gateshead Hall, where she is emotionally and physically abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at Lowood School, where she acquires friends and role models but suffers privations and oppression; her time as governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; her time with the Rivers family, during which her earnest but cold clergyman cousin, St. John Rivers, proposes to her; and her reunion with, and marriage to, her beloved Rochester. During these sections the novel provides perspectives on a number of important social issues and ideas, many of which are critical of the status quo (see the Themes section below). Literary critic Jerome Beaty opines that the close first person perspective leaves the reader "too uncritically accepting of her worldview", and often leads reading and conversation about the novel towards supporting Jane, regardless of how irregular her ideas or perspectives are.[5]
Jane Eyre is divided into 38 chapters, and most editions are at least 400 pages long. The original publication was in three volumes, comprising chapters 1 to 15, 16 to 26, and 27 to 38; this was a common publishing format during the 19th century (see three-volume novel).
Brontë dedicated the novel's second edition to William Makepeace Thackeray.
The novel begins with the titular character, Jane Eyre, aged 10, living with her maternal uncle's family, the Reeds, as a result of her uncle's dying wish. It is several years after her parents died of typhus. Mr. Reed, Jane's uncle, was the only one in the Reed family who was kind to Jane. Jane's aunt, Sarah Reed, dislikes her, treats her as a burden, and discourages her children from associating with Jane. Mrs. Reed and her three children are abusive to Jane, physically, emotionally, and, as the reader is quick to realize, spiritually. The nursemaid Bessie proves to be Jane's only ally in the household, even though Bessie sometimes harshly scolds Jane. Excluded from the family activities, Jane is incredibly unhappy, with only a doll and books in which to find solace.
One day, after her cousin John knocks her down and she attempts to defend herself, Jane is locked in the red room where her uncle died; there, she faints from panic after she thinks she has seen his ghost. She is subsequently attended to by the kindly apothecary, Mr. Lloyd, to whom Jane reveals how unhappy she is living at Gateshead Hall. He recommends to Mrs. Reed that Jane should be sent to school, an idea Mrs. Reed happily supports. Mrs. Reed then enlists the aid of the harsh Mr. Brocklehurst, director of Lowood Institution, a charity school for girls. Mrs. Reed cautions Mr. Brocklehurst that Jane has a "tendency for deceit", which he interprets as her being a "liar". Before Jane leaves, however, she confronts Mrs. Reed and declares that she'll never call her "aunt" again, that Mrs. Reed and her daughter, Georgiana, are the ones who are deceitful, and that she'll tell everyone at Lowood how cruelly Mrs. Reed treated her.

About This Book
English edition of the Brontë classic.
SynopsisCharlotte Brontë’s classic is like three novels in one. Above all, it’s a haunting Gothic tale set in an ancient and remote manor house, a story full of suspense, terror, supernatural encounters, and twisted family secrets. But Jane Eyre is also a dark romance in which the road to true love is rife with potholes, as well as a coming-of-age story, tracing a heroine’s development from a shy, isolated teen into a confident woman.
When we first meet Jane, she’s just been sent by her cruel aunt to a boarding school with an even crueler headmaster. But circumstances quickly improve for Jane, whose headstrong nature bucks the social norms of the time. She becomes a teacher and starts working for the brooding, mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane eventually falls for her employer, but he’s hiding a secret – and it’s a doozy. Brontë’s novel is, quite simply, a page-turner.

About This Book
'Jane Eyre' is a story about an orphan child. Jane's parents died when she was still too little to remember them, and it is her uncle (her mother's brother) who takes her in. Jane's uncle also dies not to long after this, and he makes hir wife, Mrs. Reed, promise him that she will take care of his niece as if she were her own. Unfortunately for Jane, her aunt does not fulfill that promise: She considers Jane a bourdain and dislikes her for being poor. Her children are no better. Under their mother's indulgence, they mistreat their cousin constantly, always making it clear that she is inferior to them.
It is only at age ten that Jane managed to get out of her aunt's house, but her quality of life does not improve much. She is sent to Lowood, a charity school directed by the cruel Mr. Brocklehurst, who does not hesitate in making the pupils face hunger, cold and even physical punishments in what he considers a chance to 'save their souls'.
Our protagonist remains at Lowood for eight years, six as a pupil and two as a teacher. After that, she decides that it is time to find a new situation and advertises in a paper offering her services to educate children. The only answer she receives comes from a place called Thornfield, in Millcote, and is addressed by a Mrs. Fairfax, who hires her to be the governess of only one child.
Jane's life in Thornfield Hall is more satisfactory that she could have expected. She likes Mrs. Fairfax, the housekeeper, and her little pupil Adele, who soon become very fond of her, too. Jane also gets to know Mr. Rochester, owner of Thornfield, with whom she develops a strange friendship that eventually turns into love. But it will be no long until she discovers that the unequal social positions and the difference of age are not the biggest obstacles that their relationship has to overcome. On the eve of their wedding a terrible secret comes out, tearing Jane away from everything she has ever known.

About This Book
Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of its eponymous heroine, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the Byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall. In its internalisation of the action – the focus is on the gradual unfolding of Jane’s moral and spiritual sensibility, and all the events are coloured by a heightened intensity that was previously the domain of poetry – Jane Eyre revolutionised the art of fiction.
Charlotte Brontë has been called the ‘first historian of the private consciousness’ and the literary ancestor of writers like Joyce and Proust. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel’s exploration of classism, sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

About This Book
"Jane Eyre: An Autobiography" by Charlotte Brontë is a novel written in the early 19th century, specifically during the Victorian era. The story centers around Jane Eyre, an orphaned girl who faces hardship and oppression while growing up in the unkind household of her aunt, Mrs. Reed. The narrative unfolds her struggles against social class constraints and personal adversities as she searches for love, belonging, and independence. The opening of the novel introduces us to Jane Eyre's bleak existence at Gateshead Hall, where she lives with her aunt and cousins. As a child, Jane is mistreated by her relatives, particularly her cousin John Reed, who bullies her relentlessly. Following a confrontation with John, Jane is punished by being locked in the "red-room," a place associated with fear and isolation, which deepens her feelings of alienation and resentment. This initial section sets the tone for Jane's journey as it highlights her passionate spirit and desire for justice, laying the groundwork for her development and the challenges she will face in her quest for a place where she truly belongs

About This Book
Universally acknowledged as one of the most popular and brilliant books ever written, "Jane Eyre" is Charlotte Brontë's masterpiece, often listed with Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" as among the finest romance novels ever published. The story follows the hardscrabble life of its eponymous lead character, Jane Eyre, who is orphaned at a young age and forced to live under the rule of her heartless Aunt Reed and her equally cruel children. Sent to a boarding school, Jane finds life little better there as she endures harsh conditions and the same kind of brutal treatment she received from her family.
Jane eventually finds work as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets and becomes enamored of the surly the lord of the manor, Edward Rochester who, it soon becomes apparent, harbors a dark and mysterious secret. A thrilling and groundbreaking novel of love, social criticism and romance, "Jane Eyre" has become one of the most beloved books in the English language and is presented here in its original and unabridged format.
