About This Book
Bookshub. co.in
Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë's only novel. It was first published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, and a posthumous second edition was edited by her sister Charlotte. The name of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors on which the story centres (as an adjective, wuthering is a Yorkshire word referring to turbulent weather). The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and many around them.

About This Book
Considered lurid and shocking by mid-19th-century standards, Wuthering Heights was initially thought to be such a publishing risk that its author, Emily Brontë, was asked to pay some of the publication costs.
Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine’s father. After Mr Earnshaw’s death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine’s brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.
A fiend of a book — an incredible monster… The action is laid in hell, — only it seems places and people have English names there. —Dante Gabriel Rossetti
A monument of the most striking genius that nineteenth-century womanhood has given us. —Clement Shorter
The greatest work of fiction by any man or woman Europe has produced to date. —Anthony Ludovici
There is no “I” in ‘Wuthering Heights’. There are no governesses. There are no employers. There is love, but it is not the love of men and women. Emily was inspired by some more general conception. The impulse which urged her to create was not her own suffering or her own injuries. She looked out upon a world cleft into gigantic disorder and felt within her the power to unite it in a book. —Virginia Woolf

About This Book
Catherine and Heathcliff’s passion for one another seems to be the center of Wuthering Heights, given that it is stronger and more lasting than any other emotion displayed in the novel, and that it is the source of most of the major conflicts that structure the novel’s plot. As she tells Catherine and Heathcliff’s story, Nelly criticizes both of them harshly, condemning their passion as immoral, but this passion is obviously one of the most compelling and memorable aspects of the book. It is not easy to decide whether Brontë intends the reader to condemn these lovers as blameworthy or to idealize them as romantic heroes whose love transcends social norms and conventional morality. The book is actually structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, while the less dramatic second half features the developing love between young Catherine and Hareton. In contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange.

About This Book
This Top Five Classics edition of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights includes:
• 12 starkly beautiful woodcut illustrations by renowned artist Clare Leighton (the inspiration for the sets of the classic 1939 Laurence Olivier–Merle Oberon film adaptation)
• The complete, unabridged text of the original novel
• Charlotte Brontë's preface and biographical notice to the 1850 edition
• An informative introduction and author bio
Wuthering Heights was released in 1847 in the shadow of the instantly successful Jane Eyre, published two months earlier by Emily's older sister, Charlotte. It enjoyed only mixed reviews—but the reactions were intense, foreshadowing the eventual stature the novel would claim in the pantheon of English literature, surpassing in many readers' eyes even her sister's magnum opus. Though Emily would not live to see it, Wuthering Heights would become synonymous with passionate gothic romance and tragic, twisted love, establishing Heathcliff and Catherine as the most poignantly doomed couple in fiction since Romeo & Juliet.

About This Book
This is the original, unedited edition of Wuthering Heights with a detailed biography of Emiliy Brontë attached at the end of the ebook.
Wuthering Heights, Brontë's only finished novel, was written between 1845 and 1846 and published in 1847. Although Wuthering Heights is now a classic of English literature, contemporaneous reviews were deeply polarised; it was controversial because of its unusually stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty, and it challenged Victorian ideas about religion, morality, class and a woman's place in society. The English poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti, although an admirer of the book, referred to it as "A fiend of a book – an incredible monster […] The action is laid in hell, – only it seems places and people have English names there." The novel has inspired many adaptations, including film, radio and television dramatisations; a musical; a ballet; operas; and a hit song.
Having helped first-time writers, Ilias Thiesseas Publishing has branched out into classics over the past years, as more and more people started believing in its vision. Now, Ilias Thiesseas Publising has been trusted and acknowledged to provide the complete original and unedited classics from world-famous authors. Its vision of becoming the leading classics publisher is tomorrow’s reality.

About This Book
Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë’s Gothic masterpiece. A dark and haunting tale of undying love and haunting obsession, set against the wild, unforgiving Yorkshire moors.
‘The most striking and powerful of all the Brontë novels’. – The Globe, 1858
When the orphaned Heathcliff is taken into the Earnshaw household, he forms an intense bond with Catherine Earnshaw. When pride, cruelty, and ambition tear them apart, their passion curdles into bitterness, shaping a cycle of suffering that engulfs not only their own lives but those of the next generation.
Told through layered narration and rich Gothic atmosphere, Wuthering Heights explores the destructive power of unchecked emotion, the constraints of society, and the blurred line between love and possession. Stormy, unsettling, and fiercely original, this novel defies the conventions of romance to present a raw vision of human nature, one where love can be as brutal and relentless as the moors that surround it.
A singular masterpiece of English literature, Wuthering Heights remains as provocative and unforgettable today as when it was first published.

About This Book
"Wuthering Heights" is a story of love bordering on obsession and revenge, shattering the destinies of two generations. The only novel by the English writer and poet Emily Brontë, the book became a true challenge to strict Victorian morality and sparked heated debate. Published in English.
Catherine, a woman trying to live by her own rules; the orphan Heathcliff, whose race and ethnicity are still debated; the old family mansion lost in the Yorkshire moors; ghostly apparitions and a succession of unreliable narrators—the well-educated Brontë weaves all this into a mysterious, captivating narrative.
"The murdered, I believe, haunt their murderers. I know ghosts sometimes roam the earth! Be with me always… take whatever form you please… Drive me mad, but don't leave me in this abyss where I cannot find you!"
The novel is considered one of the first examples of women's Gothic fiction. The cover illustrations and interior design are ultraharmonica.

About This Book
Emily Brontë's novel tells Heathcliff's story of her love for Catherine and how this passion eventually destroys them both. The central theme of the book is the destructive effect that the sense of jealousy and the spirit of revenge can have about individuals. The story is told as a kind of long story that Ellen Dean, or Nelly (the housekeeper) tells Mr. Lockwood, the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange; the final is instead set the year after Mr. Lockwood's departure.

About This Book
Wuthering Heights (1847) by Emily Brontë recounts the life story of Heathcliff from his childhood to his death in his late thirties. He is an orphan, found on the streets of Liverpool and taken by Mr. Earnshaw to Wuthering Heights, where he is reluctantly cared for by the family. After Mr. Earnshaw death, Hindley claims his place as master of Wuthering Heights and makes life miserable for Heathcliff, his adopted brother, by treating him like a servant. Heathcliff and Catherine fall in love, but she decides to marry Edgar causing Heathcliff to run away. He returns later, affluent and educated, acquires Wuthering Heights, and sets about gaining his revenge on the people that he believed ruined his life. “Emily Brontë, author of the greatest psychological novel ever written, with the most complex character ever conceived. Read “Wuthering Heights” when you’re 18 and you think Heathcliff is a romantic hero; when you’re 30, he’s a monster; at 50 you see he’s just human.” – Alice Hoffman in her 2014 “By the Book” interview with The New York Times

About This Book
THE ORIGINAL, UNABRIDGED 1847 EDITION
Wuthering Heights is a storm-lashed tale of obsessive love and corrosive revenge set on the Yorkshire moors, where the orphan Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw’s fierce bond warps two generations of the Earnshaw and Linton families, mingling Gothic passion, haunting superstition, and a stark vision of emotional cruelty. The novel probes how class, inheritance, and “proper” gentility shape desire, marriage choices, and who is treated as fully human. Since its mixed early reception, Wuthering Heights has grown into a central work of the literary canon, now celebrated for its radical narrative structure, psychological depth, and pioneering exploration of passion, gender, and class in the Victorian novel.
This Warbler Classics edition faithfully reproduces the original 1847 edition and includes the three prefaces written by Charlotte Brontë for the 1850 edition in which made significant revisions. Also includes an extensive biographical timeline.
Emily Brontë (1818–1848) was an English novelist and poet, the reclusive middle Brontë sister and author of her sole novel, Wuthering Heights (1847), a fiercely original work set on the Yorkshire moors that transformed romantic fiction with its bleak intensity and psychological power.
Charlotte Brontë (1816–1855) was an English novelist, poet, and eldest surviving Brontë sister, best known for the novel Jane Eyre, which helped redefine the possibilities of Victorian fiction.
“[Emily Brontë] looked out upon a world cleft into gigantic disorder and felt within her the power to unite it in a book. That gigantic ambition is to be felt throughout the novel.” —Virginia Woolf
“Wuthering Heights releases extraordinary new energies in the novel, renews its potential, and almost reinvents the genre. The scope and drift of its imagination, its passionate exploration of a fatal yet regenerative love affair, and its brilliant manipulation of time and space put it in a league of its own.” —Robert McCrum, The Guardian

About This Book
Step into the windswept Yorkshire moors in Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights—a story of passion, vengeance, and haunting devotion that defies time itself.
When the brooding orphan Heathcliff is taken in by the Earnshaw family, his deep, fierce love for Catherine Earnshaw becomes both his salvation and his ruin. Torn apart by pride and circumstance, their bond transforms into an obsession that spans generations, binding the fates of all who live at Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange.
Through the eyes of the outsider Mr. Lockwood and the housekeeper Nelly Dean, Brontë unravels a gothic masterpiece where love becomes indistinguishable from torment, and memory itself refuses to rest.
Darkly poetic and emotionally raw, Wuthering Heights remains one of the most powerful explorations of human desire and self-destruction ever written—a tale where the moors echo with the ghosts of hearts that could never let go.
